چکیده

1 Revised manuscript received Sept. 9, 1963. 2 Paper 37, Plant Nutrition Laboratory. This work was supported by research grant RG-07339-02 from the National Institutes of Health. :'Present address: Division of Agricultural Developnihnt, Tennessee Valley Authority, VVilson Dam, Alabama. specified (8). In some cases it is known that a, mixture of molecular species may be present, and often the manufacturer may offer a numbered series of chemically-related preparations wvith progressively changing properties (8). Surfactant preparations are commonly solutions, with the percent of the active ingredients not always disclosed. The investigator is therefore often confronted Nwith some (lifficulties in expressing the concentration of surfactant present in a test solution. Frequently he can do no more than state this on a percent v/v basis, with somle unlcertainty that different batches of the product will be identical. Twenty-two nonionic surfactants were obtained from their respective manufacturers together with technical data which varied considerably in extent of detail. Some of the preparations from the sources listed below are believed to be similar with respect to general chemical groupings, and might be identica!. However, their effective concentration and other unspecified components may be different. In these studies surfactants were used in a number of testL systems at concentrations ranging from 0.001 to 0.10 % v/v which gave solutions witlh p1 close to 6.0. Trade names and clhemical types are given in table I.

Effects of Nonionic Surfactants on Xanthan Gum Production: a Survey on Cellular Interactions

Background: Xanthomonas campestris is a biopolymer producing gram negative bacterium. Production of xanthan biopolymer can be affected by different extrinsic factors as well as surfactants. Hitherto, effects of nonionic surfactants on xanthan production have been studied in a limited number of articles. Objective: In the present study, nonionic surfactants...

GROWTH RESPONSE AND CATION - INTERACTION IN HIPPOPHAE RHAMNOIDES L

The interaction between sodium and calcium, magnesium and calcium and the combined effect of sodium, magnesium and calcium was observed on the growth and ion uptake of Hippophae rhamnoides L. The results demonstrated that an addition of sodium with calcium, (set a, Na 2.5 + Ca 5 mM) showed prominent increase in fresh weight of roots and shoots. The dry weight (average) of roots decreased an...

The Influence of Bicomponent Mixed Surfactants on Drop/Interface Coalescence

Effects of binary mixtures of ionic/nonionic (sodium dodecyl sulfate/2-heptanol or 1-decanol) and nonionic/nonionic surfactants (2-heptnol/1-decanol) on drop/interface coalescence of water drops in a continuous n-heptane phase were examined. The drop size reduced appreciably and the multi-step coalescence was suppressed finally as the concentration of each of the constituting components</em...

Effects of potassium on temporal growth of root and shoot of wheat and its uptake in different soils

In a pot culture experiment, the root length density, potassium concentration in crop, and total K uptake by wheat (Triticum aestivum var. HD 2285) at different growth stages (CRIS-Crown Root Initiation Stage, MTS-Maximum Tillering Stage, FLS-Flag Leaf Stage and DFS-Dough Formation Stage) were determined. Wheat crop was grown in 72 pots containing 4.5 kg of three types of soils, namely Alfisol,...

Plant growth promoting bacteria effects on growth, photosynthetic pigments and root nutrients uptake of Avena sativa L. under drought stress

Drought stress is one of the most important factors affecting plant growth. Plant growth under drought stress may be enhanced by the application of microbial inoculation including plant growth promoting rhizobacteria. This research was conducted as a factorial experiment in a completely randomized design. The first factor included the bio-fertilizer (A. vinelandii (A)), P. agglomerans+ P. ...
